In March 2016 I popped over to Ireland to work with the lovely John and Cepa of Crossing the Line Films, advising on their 4 part urban wildlife series "Ireland's Wild Cities". Working with the talented Paul Finan in his studio set in the wilds of Wicklow - the first time I've ever worked in a studio with a view of a mountain!

Nordkapp Film Festival

A wonderful privilage to be asked to speak at the Nordkapp Film Festival in Honningsv√•g Norway - as far north as you can be in mainland Europe. Woderful friendly, talented film makers. Sound Recordist Mary Milton and I had a wonderful time. Gry Mortensen looked after us fabulously and we saw some great films and documentaries.Myself Gry and Mary

IPS Training Weekend

Early in Feb I pottered off to a great weekend away in Leamington Spa. A get together of post production and production sound mixers. I made new aquaintences and caught up with some old friends. Definitely worth being a member of a professional body like AMPS or IPS (Assoc. of Motion Picture Sound and Institute of Professional Sound.

The Con

The Con 1

Well .. having just finished on "The Great British Year" for BBC 1 Andrew Wilson and I have just completed 8 programmes about and for the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (Yes .. the Australian one). Really interesting shorts about each of the departments and then one long film - all produced by  Bruce Wills and cut by Andrew Hassenruck. A lovely project about a subject close to my heart!

The Great British Year - Seasons

Well  -  I've finished mixing Jame's Brickel's series about how we and our wildlife are governed by the vibrancy and rhythm of our changing seasons. Thanks as always to Kate Hopkins and Jonny Crew for fabulous sounds in the tracklay and thanks to Diana and all at Wounded Buffalo for help and support and fab lunches! during the many days mixing. Well done too to Will Hyde for his evocative music.

Halcyon days: Return to Radio

November/December was busy making a set of radio programmes for CBBC Radio. Myself and Andrew Wilson had loads of creative fun working with the ever professional and lovely Philippa Forrester (Halcyon Media) on a series of programmes about birdsong, including the Robin Christmas Special. All recorded at Andrew's studio at Real World. Transmission dates for the whole series yet to be announced.

Late December found me back in Big Bang mixing Programme 1 of the BBC mini series Wild Arabia. A really delightful , interesting programme covering an area not often seen, in the footsteps of T E Lawrence.

RTS Sound Jury October 2012

Had a great day with other sound pro's judging this years sound entries for the Royal Television Soc. ... even get to go to the ball!

Sad Day 21/08/12

Said goodbye to an influential mentor today. Peter Rose, TV sound supervisor taught me much about many apects of TV sound, dealing with production and above all how to keep things simple .. the more mics you put out the more problems you have to deal with. Think carefully and place them well! To be 70 and still recording Antiques Roadshow .. what an achievement and such a long way from the days you recorded Monty Python! You will be missed.

What I've been up to - mixing!

Well finally I've got it together and started to update this site -

Since starting at the University of the West of England I've been keeping up my professional practise by mixing a few projects each year.

In order these are:

Natural History Museum films and interactive David Attenborough evolution film. ... You can go and view these in the David Attenborough Studio in the Darwin Centre at the Natural History Museum, London.

These projects and various days mixing filling in for ex colleagues on leave from the BBC have helped me keep my hand in and keep current.
