I play trumpet in a variety of bands and groups .. studied at Welsh College of Music and Drama (now “Royal” WCMD), then a Post Grad teaching qualification at Cardiff Uni and then a spell as a Peripatetic Brass Teacher for South Devon before getting my BBC job in sound.
Recordings/Broadcasts
I am lucky enough to know some very talented composers and occasionally they have flattered me by getting me to play for theme tunes, albums, TV scores …
Jebo – A Bristol band, I play on their album “Sinking Without You”
Sarah Class – A Bristol based composer/singer/songwriter, I play on her soundtrack for David Attenborough’s Africa series (2 episodes “Kalahari” – the Giraffe stand-off sequence and “Cape” – Pelicans sequence … musical biodiversity!)
England’s Roar! SO ASHAMED! >>> as a Welshman to end up on Steve Yabsley’s England Football anthem .. very crazy u-tube video! (I’m Welsh and the Trombonist Savio is half Welsh, half Italian!)
The Bands
Gee Baby I Love You
A high octane soul/funk band, heavy on the horns
The Regz
Started out as a “works band” and has blossomed, by public demand, into an exciting function band playing some of the great classics.
Bristol Brass Consort
A classical brass ensemble that crews-up to a 20+ piece band to tackle some spectacular brass repertoire including new commissions.
Dave Salt Big Band
A 17 piece big band playing the music of Buddy Rich, Duke Ellington, Sammy Nestico and many others (including Glenn Miller of course!)
The Non-Commitments (Liverpool)
This is a “works band” with a difference. The players are predominantly drawn from the ranks of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra with invited guests. I feel very privilaged to have been invited to play with this band on various occasions.
